Ain't Unleash Brooding Second Single "Teething"

London-based quintet continue to build momentum with new release and live dates

London five-piece Ain't have released their second single "Teething", further cementing their position as one of the most promising emerging bands in the UK indie scene.

The track arrives amidst a whirlwind year for the band, who have already made waves with showcase performances for So Young, Rough Trade, The Alt Escape, and The Windmill. Their debut single "Oar", released in May, lived up to the considerable hype surrounding the group, garnering support from prominent music publications and radio stations alike.

Ain't's sound is a captivating blend of '90s alternative guitar, post-punk, and shoegaze influences from both sides of the Atlantic. The band consists of George Ellerby (Guitar/Vox), Ed Randall (Guitar), Hanna Baker Darch (Vox), Chapman Ho (Bass Guitar), and Joe Lockstone (Drums), each contributing to their urgent and weighty musical output.

"Teething" expands on the band's dynamic and scowling sound, recorded with producer Oli Barton Wood, known for his work with acts such as Porridge Radio, Shame, and The Big Moon. The track features muscular, hook-driven melodies set against an underlying sense of unease.

The song's origins lie in a guitar motif that guitarist Ed Randall found himself returning to repeatedly. It wasn't until bandmates Ellerby and Ho were experiencing wisdom tooth pain that the idea evolved into "Teething" - a composition steeped in self-pity and all-encompassing sorrow. Hanna Baker's powerful vocal delivery ties the arrangements together, showcasing Ain't's ability to deliver crushing, gut-punching music.

The band describes "Teething" as their "creepiest song," with lyrics that capture the ache of unrequited attention. "It's about vying for someone's attention when they couldn't care less – and how the sting of that rejection isn't so much a sting, but a persistent throbbing, like toothache," they explain.

Ain't's approach to songwriting is likened to the changing of seasons, embracing both calm and stormy elements to create introspective yet communal sonic experiences. This artistic philosophy marks them as a vibrant and limitless force in the contemporary music landscape.

Fans can catch Ain't live at several upcoming shows, including performances in London, Bristol, and Leeds. The band is also hinting at further releases on the horizon, promising to maintain their momentum in the coming months.

"Teething" is now available on all major streaming platforms via Fear Of Missing Out Records.
