South London-based band Moreish Idols has unveiled their latest single, "Pale Blue Dot," marking a significant evolution in their musical journey.
The new track, set to be released as a 7" vinyl on October 1st via Speedy Wunderground, showcases the band's continued growth and experimentation with their sound.
A New Direction for Moreish Idols
"Pale Blue Dot" represents a departure from the band's earlier work, which was characterized by energetic post-punk influences. Their previous EPs, "Float" and "Lock Eyes and Collide," garnered critical acclaim from notable music publications such as The FADER, NME, and CLASH, as well as airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music.
The new single features a more introspective approach, blending subtly intricate acoustic instrumentation with layered vocal harmonies. This shift in style demonstrates Moreish Idols' willingness to challenge their songwriting capabilities and explore new sonic territories.
The Making of "Pale Blue Dot"
The band describes the creation of "Pale Blue Dot" as a journey through various iterations. What began as a drum machine and guitar demo evolved through different arrangements before finding its final form. A spontaneous decision led the band to producer Dan Carey's studio, where they stripped the song down to its essence, recording it with acoustic guitars in a simplified arrangement.
Moreish Idols explain the song's meaning: "The track encourages you to kill your darlings, soak in the vastness of everything, and commit to your own obliterating but necessary ego death. Pale Blue Dot has been through this same journey and for that it's a very special one for us."
Speedy Wunderground's 50th Single Celebration
The release of "Pale Blue Dot" coincides with a significant milestone for Speedy Wunderground. The single marks the label's 50th 7" release since its inception in 2013. To commemorate this achievement, Speedy Wunderground is hosting a special release party at London's Shacklewell Arms on September 30th. The event will feature performances by Disgusting Sisters and other alumni of the label.
