Glasgow-based Ambient Duo Set to Release Second Album on November 8th

Glaswegian ambient duo Cahill//Costello have announced their second collaborative album, 'Cahill//Costello II', set for release on November 8th via Gearbox Records.

The duo, comprising classically trained experimental guitarist Kevin Daniel Cahill and acclaimed Scottish jazz innovator Graham Costello, are building upon the success of their 2021 debut "Offworld". Their first album garnered support from notable outlets such as CLASH, Worldwide FM, Future Music, Electronic Sound, and Concrete Islands.

'Cahill//Costello II' showcases the duo's evolution, featuring a blend of effected guitar-based ambient atmospherics and subtly groove-inflected drumming, often run through hypnotic tape loops. The album reflects their shared passion for minimalism and improvisation, which they discovered despite their different musical backgrounds at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

To mark the announcement, Cahill//Costello have released a new single, "Sunbeat". The track represents a new direction for the duo in terms of sound and tonality. "We felt this was a good first single to showcase our growth and change in the sound world since 'Offworld'," the duo explains. The song originated from an improvised warm-up session before the main album recording, capturing a spontaneous moment that perfectly encapsulates their collaborative process.

The duo's writing process for 'Cahill//Costello II' was a natural evolution from their previous work. They describe it as a continuous creative flow, with ideas emerging organically from their strengthened musical and personal bond. "It's a delicate concept to navigate, playing music this way together, as it is music based on shared emotions and intuition," they reflect.

Cahill//Costello's live performances are known for their visual elements, extended improvisations, and creative use of analogue tape loops and soundscapes. Following their recent appearance at Bristol's ArcTanGent Festival, the duo has announced a short UK tour in December to celebrate the new album's release.

'Cahill//Costello II' is set to be released on November 8th via Gearbox Records, home to artists such as Emanuel Harrold, Abdullah Ibrahim, Village Of The Sun, and Knats.
