Norwegian Band Embraces Confidence and Feminist Fun in Latest Release
Norwegian pop-punk band SLØTFACE has unleashed their latest album, "Film Buff," a collection of eleven high-energy tracks that showcase the group's evolution and unwavering commitment to their feminist roots.
Released via Propeller Recordings, "Film Buff" marks a significant departure from their 2020 album "Sorry For The Late Reply." Despite lineup changes, the band, led by vocalist Haley Shea, maintains its trademark fearlessness and frank approach to songwriting.
Shea describes the album as a deliberate attempt to create "eleven bangers," drawing inspiration from the youthful energy of their debut album "Try Not To Freak Out." The recording process was guided by strict rules, including a minimum tempo of 160 bpm and a four-minute maximum song length, ensuring each track delivered pure, unadulterated fun.
"Film Buff" tackles themes of stereotypes, expectations, and gender roles, with a particular focus on toxic masculinity. However, Shea notes that these topics are approached with a lighter touch compared to their earlier work. "We've always been a feminist band, and the goal for Film Buff was to write a fun record, but it's a feminist fun record because that's just part of who we are," she explains.
The album's sound pushes boundaries, incorporating diverse influences from LCD Soundsystem and Talking Heads to David Guetta. Standout tracks like "Lift Heavy" exemplify this genre-bending approach, showcasing the band's willingness to experiment and evolve.
Recorded in Oslo with producer Preben Sælid Andersen, "Film Buff" features contributions from core band members Simen Følstad Nilsen, Tobias Osland, Marie Moe, and Nils Jørgen Nilsen. Additional songwriting credits go to Daniel Hedberg, Michael Champion, and Paul Whally.
SLØTFACE is currently embarking on a UK and Ireland tour, bringing their energetic live performances to fans across the region. The tour, which began on September 23rd in Dublin, will conclude on October 3rd in London.
