Tencent Music Announces AI Technology for Singing in 10 Languages.. 'Westlife Releases Mandarin Single'

[Monthly Mixing] Kugou Music, a subsidiary of Tencent Music, has developed a multilingual AI singing technology called 'KUGOU AIK'.

According to Tencent Music, when a user sings acapella for 60 seconds, AIK fully mimics the user's voice characteristics to sing. Users can use this technology to sing in 10 languages including 15 Chinese dialects, English, Japanese, and Korean.

The Irish pop group Westlife used this technology to release a new single in Mandarin in China. The song is a cover version of Jason Zhang's 2016 hit 'Love + Courage', and is exclusively released in China through Tencent Music Entertainment.

Westlife is one of the most popular foreign artists in China, having performed for over 300,000 fans across China in the past year.

This release of a Mandarin track using AI technology is expected to be an interesting case for Western musicians looking to expand their non-English speaking fan base.

Meanwhile, in May last year, HYBE's new artist 'MIDNATT' simultaneously released their first digital single 'Masquerade' in six languages: Korean, English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese. This utilized Supertone's multilingual pronunciation correction technology on the voice of Lee Hyun from the group Eight.

In November last year, singer-songwriter Lauv released a Korean version of 'Love U Like That', applying an AI filter trained on his voice to a melody sung by Kevin, a former member of the K-pop group U-KISS.
