[Monthly Mixing] Aly James Lab has recreated the sound of the legendary 1979 drum synthesizer Pearl Syncussion SY-1 as a plugin.
The newly released 'SY-4X' plugin not only accurately reproduces the internal circuitry of the Pearl Syncussion SY-1 but also offers many more options.
It integrates four units into one and adds various features such as 'mode scanning' controlled by triggers, CMOS circuit 'defect' control to enhance harmonics, and real-time VCF integrator cap offset for dynamic pole movement.
SY-4X can create an 8-voice drum kit, four mono synths, or four poly synth voices. It's also possible to mix drum kit mode and mono synth mode.
A notably impressive feature is the option to generate random mode sequences synchronized to triggers. This allows bypassing the analog potentiometer and scrolling through modes according to the generated sequence.
SY-4X also models the unique filter design of the original hardware. It's a 2-stage lowpass SVF where the control voltage has more effect on the second stage, creating a vowel-like effect.
This plugin is available in VST3 and AU formats for Windows 10 or higher and Mac OS 10.14 or higher, priced at 51 euros. More details can be found on the Aly James Lab website.
