Sony Announces New Headphone Lineup MDR-M1

[Monthly Mixing] Sony has announced the addition of a new model, the MDR-M1, to its pro audio headphone lineup.

According to the description, the MDR-M1 is designed to combine comfortable wear with studio-quality sound reliability, making it suitable for music production and high-resolution audio work.

The production process involved collaboration with engineers including Mike Piacentini, a mastering engineer at Battery Studios, and Akihiro Nishimura, a mix engineer at Power Station at Berklee NYC.

As a result, it achieves a playback bandwidth of 5Hz to 80kHz and can provide high output levels with low distortion.

The closed-back design blocks ambient noise and prevents sound leakage from the headphones, while also including a tuned port that acts as a ventilation hole to help control low-frequency output.

Sony stated that they have optimized the diaphragm to improve low-frequency transients and maintain tight and accurate bass response.

They also emphasized that it boasts an ergonomic and lightweight structure that ensures comfortable wear even during long listening sessions.

The MDR-M1 is scheduled for release at the end of September, priced at $249.
